I’m always proud of the work we do here at BTI, especially when I get to see how our work has a positive impact on people and our community.
Each year, we do a couple of projects where we donate our time and creative energy to help our clients raise money and awareness for charitable causes. The positive energy that I get from doing something positive for others helps spark an energy that produces some great creative ideas. Such was the case with our work in support of Youth Without Shelter’s “COVER ME URBAN” event.
Youth Without Shelter is an emergency residence and referral agency serving homeless youth in Toronto.
The idea of this fundraising event was to treat guests to an experience that mimicked walking through various urban Toronto neighbourhoods. The event space was divided into 6 sections; Kensington Market, The Junction, King West, Little Italy, High Park, and Rexdale (Home of Youth Without Shelter).
Our challenge was to help visually create the neighbourhood environments within the event space, differentiate them from each other, and help encourage guests to visit each section.
To achieve that, we designed a unique set of hanging typographic signs, large graphic backdrops for each neighbourhood, and a unique folded map/takeaway piece that guided guests through the venue, to activities within the different areas. Neighbourhoods shown on the map were colour coded, and contained call-outs to the various activities.
It was great to see how our work helped create an overall look and feel that really captured Toronto’s urban scene. The environment, together with great live entertainment, art, and amazing food vendors, made for a truly exciting event that was not only fun, but fruitful. The event raised over $100,000 to be invested in youth support programs!
