Join us in welcoming Craig Markou to the BTI team as our Executive Creative Director!
Craig comes to us as an experienced Creative Director and Art Director, providing our clients with ideas second to none.
Read on to learn more about Craig and his role at BTI:
So Craig, what brings you to a small independent agency after 15 years of big agency life?
I was looking to have a bigger impact on an agency rather than just being a smaller part of a multinational. Plus, I live right down the street!
What will be your role as Executive Creative Director?
I’ll be looking to increase the creative profile of BTI. Until now, it’s been a hidden gem, doing great work that not many people know about outside of our very happy clients. Going forward you’ll see more great work from BTI recognized by award shows and picked up in the press.
Where have the last 10 years of your career taken you?
Over the last 10 years, I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the best people in the industry. In addition to having started my own agency, I have been able to work with 10 of Strategy Magazine’s top 25 agencies including JWT, Zulu Alpha Kilo and Taxi. Along the way, I’ve been recognized by every major international award including the Cannes Lions, D&AD, and One Show.
Most agencies today aren’t led by the visionaries that founded them. But BTI is different. It was built from the ground up by Parveen Dhupar who’s as smart, charismatic and stylish as they come. The opportunity to work closely with such a great entrepreneur is something you just can’t pass up.
What are you bringing to the BTI table?
I come at every brief with a passion and energy that doesn’t depend on the size of the project or the media dollars behind it. Every single project we work on will have a lot of thought and care going into it.
What is a career highlight for you to date?
My most recent highlight was being part of the team that helped Rethink win the WestJet business in April 2018. But the best is yet to come.
What's one piece of advice you would offer those just starting out?
Make everything you work on great. I’ve won a Clio for a Walmart flyer.
What are your words to live by?
Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
What is your favourite TV show?
My Vintage. It’s a program on Vintage TV that features music industry people playing their favourite videos. If you know Alan Cross from The Edge, you’ll love this show.
What food can't you live without?
Thai Food. When my Thai levels get low, I get grumpy.
What song is your anthem?
